When should you seek counseling?
If you are feeling overwhelmed, burdened, or trapped, counseling can assist you in working through these feelings. You may feel alone or lost. If you worry all the time, cannot sleep or eat, or are having trouble with relationships, counseling can offer help, hope and healing.
Counseling offers a safe and confidential environment for you to seek professional help for a wide range of problems. Some of the most common areas are relational and adjustment problems such as anxiety depression, marital or family issues, addictions, and trauma recovery. Counseling can also help you overcome personal obstacles that may be hindering your personal or spiritual growth. For many people, counseling is a part of self-care, a time set aside to reflect and get in touch with your true and authentic self. Being proactive in taking charge of your emotional and mental health is the greatest gift you can give yourself.
How long do you need to attend counseling sessions?
Each individual and their issues can vastly differ. The first visit will be an intake visit. Initially, I recommend clients come on a weekly basis in order to develop our relationship and create momentum in dealing with the presenting issues. Much of the work of counseling takes place between sessions as you implement new coping tools and practice healthier strategies in dealing everyday situations.
What about privacy and confidentiality?
Trust is one of the biggest issues in counseling. By law, your counselor is not able to discuss the information you share during counseling sessions with anyone without your written consent.
There are also limitations to confidentiality in counseling. If you file insurance, you are giving your consent for information such as your counselor’s name, your diagnosis and your appointment dates to be released. Also, if you fail to settle any outstanding balances, your name and the amount you owe may be released to an outside collection agency.
The counselor may reveal the name of the client whom they deem may be a real and present danger to self or others. Also, a counselor is required to report knowledge of current or past abuse of children, elderly, or mentally or physically handicapped.
How much does counseling cost?
The cost of the initial 45 minute counseling session is $105.00. Follow-up sessions are $100.00. Some insurance plans are accepted. Please call your insurance company to determine your mental health coverage. If your plan covers mental health you will be responsible for the co-pay at the time of service. Receipts will be provided if you are using a plan not covered for personal reimbursement. Checks and cash are accepted.

“The thing I love most about being a therapist is watching a client’s face when the pieces of the puzzle begin to fall into place. That awesome “aha” moment when life begins to make sense in a new and exciting way. Walking the journey of healing and self-discovery with a client is an honor and privilege. It takes courage to look in the mirror, face reality and implement life-giving changes. For all of us, learning to deal in reality, developing healthy patterns of self-talk and decision-making opens the door to the amazing discovery of who we really are.”
The Serenity Prayer God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can; And the wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right If I surrender to His will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life And supremely happy with Him Forever in the next.
